Köthen–Aken Rail Line Revived by August: Logistics Boost — February 13
The Köthen–Aken rail line will return to service by August, after €400,000 in targeted works, half funded by Saxony-Anhalt. This 12 km link will reconnect Aken’s inland port with the national network and support tri-modal transport across ship, truck, and rail. Freight comes first, with special-event passenger trips possible. The project helps shippers hedge against Elbe low water, keep bulk and container flows moving, and shorten lead times. For Germany-based investors and operators, we see practical gains in reliability, cost control, and capacity planning in central Saxony-Anhalt.
