Growing Number of UK MPs Demand Immediate Action on AI Systems Regulation

We live in a time when artificial intelligence, or “AI systems,” is no longer just science fiction. In the UK, over 100 members of Parliament from across parties have recently joined a growing movement calling for immediate regulation of powerful AI systems. We believe this demand reflects real worries, not only about how fast AI is spreading, but also about how little is done to control its risks. AI is already reshaping many parts of our lives. The UK government itself calls AI a “general‑purpose technology”, able to change everything from healthcare and banking to public services. The promise is big: better services, faster work, new jobs. But as AI use expands, the dangers grow too. That’s why MPs say existing rules are not enough.
