On October 6, 2025, OpenAI and AMD announced a major partnership. This deal moves OpenAI away from relying on Nvidia. AMD will become a key partner. OpenAI will use six gigawatts of AMD GPUs. The first batch, the MI450 series, will arrive in the second half of 2026. This is huge power, equal to the energy use of about five million U.S. homes.
